陳文敏教授 Prof Johannes Chan Man-mun

題目：從英國歷史文化看普通法的發展及精神

內容：早於八百多年前(1215年)，英國頒布了第一份大憲章(Magna Carta)，指出國王及其政府均𣎴能凌駕於法律之上。今天我們認為是理所當然的法治原則，其實是經過八百多年的歷史演變而成，當中亦有不少可歌可泣的故事。透過重溫這些歷史片段和重要案例，讓我們窺探普通法背後的精神和法治與公義之間的張力和矛盾。


陳文敏教授，前香港大學法律系教授，前港大法律學院院長 (2002-2014)。 2021年退休後，旅居英國，並出任倫敦大學學院 University College London 之客席教授。專長於憲法，行政法及人權法。

Professor Johannes M M Chan is formerly Chair of Public Law and the longest serving Dean of the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong (2002-2014), and currently a Visiting Professor of University College London (2018-2023).

Specialised in constitutional, administrative and human rights law, he has published widely in these fields.

On 2 Sep 2023, Prof Chan will be the Guest Speaker of Gathering Leaves Hong Kong's 5C Salon.  He will talk about the Common Law system in the UK from the Perspective of British History and Culture.



 

 

張燦輝教授 Prof Cheung Chan-fai

主題：異域、我城、 山城 - 一個哲學學者所見的香港滄桑

曾經在中文大學教授西方哲學的張燦輝老師，眼見百萬港人走出來爭取普選、反對逃犯條例，結果遭到執政者的無情打壓與拘捕，迫使爭取自由的人竟致失去自由。


他安身立命的香港中文大學，不但在運動中成為慘烈的戰場，事後校方更秋後算帳，2021年底竟將民主女神像移除，學術自由淪為口號，中大精神蕩然無存。


張老師將自己經歷過的香港與中大，凝結在他拍攝的一幀幀相片、一篇篇文章中。張老師將在倫敦「一頁舟圖書館」帶我們巡禮他所見證香港和中文大學的滄桑。


異域、我城、山城，每一個香港人心中都有香港，每一個中大人心中都有中大。9月3日下午3：30，我們一起在倫敦想香港。


Prof. Cheung Chan-fai is a retired professor from the Department of Philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In July 2020, when he was traveling in the United Kingdom, he decided to settle there. Leaving Hong Kong and the Chinese University, where he had lived for forty years, was not an easy decision despite his deep attachment. 

On 3 Sep 2023 afternoon, Prof Cheung will be the Guest Speaker at our "Meet the Author" session in our Bookfair.  He will talk about his books and his views as a philosopher and an academia. 

 

 ZINE 小誌出版發展 Trending ZINE Book Publishing

ZINE 小誌出版先鋒會現身說法，為大家講解這個新出版出路；教大家如何起步，出版自己的小誌。

Hong Kong-based visual artists will come and explain self-publishing practice and produce a series of zines in collaboration with the audiences in the "Joyous Reading Week".  In this talk, they  will introduce the concept of Zine books to all of us.

Evolving Landscape of Independent Publishers & Bookshops in HK

主講嘉賓現時正於倫敦大學學院資訊學系攻讀博士課程，他會分享在2012到2022年間，香港的獨立出版和書店業的生態。

In this occasion, our Speaker, KL Tong, who is a researcher, writer, and a PhD student at Department of Information Studies, UCL.  He will lead a talk exploring the potentialities, strengths, and weaknesses of 'small-ness' and/or 'indie-ness' in publishing activism. The presentation will provide an overview of the indie sector, encompassing zines, books and indie bookshops, seeking to answer the question of how 'smallness' and 'indie-ness' have impacted publishing activism, its strengths, weaknesses and potential uses, especially in the face of rising censorship laws.

 

Tong’s research covers information politics, knowledge economy, publishing and archives. Their thesis explores how and why Hong Kong citizens use a wide variety of self-publishing practices to advance social change. Tong’s research articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Sociological Forum and the International Journal of Heritage Studies.

We have invited two independent bookstores selling Chinese books from Hong Kong, namely the Common and Trimly Books, to talk about their respective experience in running a physical bookstore as well as a 2nd-hand online bookstore in the UK.
